Hi,
I stayed at Cherry Tree Cottage this August with my Mum. Thanks so much for a lovely visit.

Things have been crazy since we have got back but I am finally getting to sort through my photos from being there. Attached are photos of the Mint Moth – Pyrausta aurata – I will send other things I saw in your garden as I sort through them.

I hope you are well and thanks again for being wonderful hosts.

We had a great time at Elaine‘s beautiful cottage with our two teenagers. It‘s in a really special spot with accessible moorland immediately behind the property. The views from the front of the house are spectacular and it isn‘t overlooked. We were within easy reach of Halifax and surrounding areas and were able to make lots of day trips. The cottage itself is well-equipped and very comfortable. A lovely way to spend time together as a family.

Stayed for 5 months to cover a period between our house sale and a delayed purchase .

A quaint, traditionally decorated cottage in the Yorkshire countryside with lovely views and all required amenities. Very easy access to the business centres of Manchester and West Yorkshire as well . ( I commuted to work )

A large, well maintained garden provided hours of fun for our children through the lovely summer months as well as a supply of large variety of fresh produce. Located ideally for walking, biking and running with direct access to open countryside from the garden.

The owners, Stan and Elaine, are a delightful couple who went out of their way to help us in a challenging and stressful time related to our purchase.

Would happily recommend and will likely return when we undertake house renovations next year.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stan and Elaine’s cottage. The cottage itself is warm, comfortable, clean, and cosy, and is set within a lovely setting. There were many fantastic walks nearby for our springer spaniels, and Stan and Elaine provided a wealth of information about things for the humans to enjoy. There are farm shops and local markets with a terrific range of produce should you want to prepare meals in, but also excellent pubs and restaurants for a meal out. We really felt at home, and would highly recommend a stay.

What a lovely, relaxing cottage in a beautiful part of the world! The cottage was homely and comfortable.  The garden was breathtaking and there were country and moorland walks right on the doorstep! Perfect for the two of us and our small dog with two good pubs in walking distance and  attractions and local amenities a short drive away. If you’re sensitive to light when you sleep, as I am, bring a sleep mask as the front of the cottage is sunlit for most of the day. Though with so much to do and such lovely views to admire, you probably won’t want to sleep in anyway!

Thank you Stan and Elaine for maps, walk suggestions, incredible location and a water lily. More than we could have hoped for. We had a wonderful time.

We stayed for one week and hired both cottages – Cherry Tree and Heather Bank. We have nothing but good things to say about the cottages and the location. It was ideal for us.  We ate all our meals together as a family in Heather Bank as the kitchen and living room were better for entertaining. Then for quiet time with our baby the living room in Cherry Tree was lovely with ‘fantastic’ views. Thanks to Stan and Elaine for welcoming us, we had a great time exploring Yorkshire.

Nick & Carolyn Crossley (and Barney) : Yorkshire

Hi,  We just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for making us so welcome throughout our (long) stay. Our kitchen and other house refurbishments are all finished now, enabling us to settle back into our home. However, the time we spent in Cherry Tree cottage was lovely. Both of you could not have been more welcoming, with nothing being too much trouble.

As you also know, Barney the bonkers Cockapoo absolutely loved his stay! An orchard backing onto Norland Moor, is about as close to his idea of heaven as it’s possible to get!   We both thoroughly recommend a stay with you, especially to any dog owners out there!

Excellent stay in Yorkshire! Stan and Elaine are kind OUTSTANDING hosts, they provide more of an experience than just a stay. They have Heather Moors with many trails to walk just up the hill from their house. They are also great in providing local information and tips of what to see in all the Yorkshire. Heather Bank Cottage is cosy and well stocked with amenities. There are many Inns and Pubs with excellent food just a short distance from the cottage, the Moorcock Inn and the Boothwood Inn just to name a couple. You can eat in the pubs there or make a reservation for the Restaurant. Their location has beautiful countryside, enjoy!”

We had a fabulous stay, our two boys (as did we all) loved the garden, picking raspberries and bilberries, feeding the horses and playing in the hammocks. We had fabulous weather so they really enjoyed playing in the garden. The cottage itself is quite small but very comfortable and everything that you would need. The shower was great though which makes a big difference to a stay.

Elaine and Stan were very friendly. Stan was especially great with my two children. Would stay again for sure.”

Holly the Best Cat in The World
Our stay was great and well managed by Stan and Elaine. We are so incredibly thankful to have found this great place, a magical back garden and a location well away from the chaos of London. Will definitely be hoping to return. Don’t be surprised if you leave your window open and get a visit from Holly the cat who has been known to invite herself over several times a day 🙂 It just adds to the atmosphere.

This is our 5th stay at Cherry Tree Cottages. We visit this area frequently because we have family in Ripponden. The owners Stan and Elaine are very friendly and helpful. In the past, Elaine has even taken us on one of her energetic walks. They have also supplied us with toboggans on several occasions when there was a decent snowfall.  We have stayed at Cherry Tree and Heather Bank , which is part of the same buildings. Both properties are ideal for a family of 4.

The kitchen facilities are good and there is a washing machine and dryer which we found essential for longer stays. Ripponden and the surrounding area is a beautiful part of West Yorkshire. The scenery is remarkable. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants and the local well stocked store (Co-op) is only a short drive away.

Elaine and Stan’s place is set in a stunning natural landscape in close proximity to the nearby villages. They’re lovely and warm hosts who welcomed us with generosity and gave us kind advise. We enjoyed staying by the fire socialising and going for nourishing walks just behind the house into the beautiful Yorkshire landscape full of beautiful lilac heather and green. If you’re looking for a cosy cottage in a tranquil setting, this would be a perfect place for you. Juri,

It was a wonderful experience to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and stay at Heather Bank Cottage. The location is fantastic with stunning views of the Yorkshire countryside and large gardens in which we were able to sit and enjoy the warm weather. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable. Our hosts were very helpful in suggesting local sites to visit. We enjoyed a visit to the farm shop, walks to local pubs and a very scenic walk around the reservoirs near Ripponden. We hope to return for another visit soon!

The “Wolves” family : Bromsgrove, Worcs.

We had a lovely break here this August. Both Stan and Elaine are great hosts, they made us feel very welcome but equally ‘left us alone’ in a nice way. The cottages are surrounded by beautiful scenery and it’s only a short walk to the moors from their back garden. The cottage is clean and well equipped, you really only need to pack your clothes and food – everything else we needed was there. :

We rented this cottage along with the adjoining Heather Bank Cottage as a base for my son’s wedding. it was absolutely delightful. Stan and Elaine made sure that the cottage was warm and inviting when we arrived and couldn’t have been more helpful. Both cottages are beautifully decorated and well equipped – we couldn’t have asked for more. we loved the garden and the fact that we could walk the dog right on the moors. The views from the cottages were breathtaking and despite the preparations we still had to do for the wedding we all relaxed and had a great time. I just wish we could have stayed longer – hopefully we will be back again soon – for a christening perhaps 🙂 : Kate Bannister : Tunbridge Wells.

Dear Elaine and Stan : Thank you for trusting us to look after your cats, keys, home-made marmalade and fruits. We enjoyed it here. We liked it ! Hopefully we can come again. The kids played with the cats, and the cats cuddled up to us. Your garden is heaven. God bless you ! :

:Hilary, Roger and Phoebe : Leicester

Heatherbank has been our home for a week, but I could happily have stayed indefinitely. Our dog, Phoebe, had the time of her life. . . . coming from the confines of a city. . . . and romped on Norland moor with boundless energy. The cottage is ideal for dogs, with the shady garden accessible at all times, leading to the upper gardens, and superb views over the valley.  The whole area is a paradise for walkers and dogs, and the cottage a perfect retreat at the end of a long day, thoughtfully equipped, and including wifi for planning your next day out!

Last, but most importantly, Elaine and Stan made us welcome, force-fed us an endless supply of strawberries, and shared maps, books and enthusiasm for life abundantly with us. This was an exceptional holiday and we would unreservedly recommend staying at Cherry Tree Cottages.
