We enjoyed our stay in the well equipped, roomy cottage. The garden is beautiful. We loved walking directly from and to the cottage, across open fields. We hardly used our car, making use of the local buses. We went into Halifax one afternoon, and got the bus back which dropped us off within 100 yards of the cottage.

Thank you for a wonderful stay at your cottage. Initially we had problems with on-line booking so phoned the owners who were happy to book us in that way and in a few minutes all was set for our trip. We were sent very good directions and were met by the owners who gave us a very warm welcome. The house had everything we needed for three of us and was beautifully clean and tidy. We were invited to use the gardens and to sample the berries that were beginning to ripen. As the weather was so good we had our meals on the picnic table in the garden. There is access to the open countryside from the gardens which then allowed us to do some walking. Shops were a short drive away and there is a good pub 400m down the road. All in all an excellent weekend away and we hope to return when we next come this way.

Fully equipped cottage at a great location. Lots of good walks nearby and wonderful garden at the back which gives a refreshing feeling. On-premise parking may be a bit tight for big cars but street parking is also available just at the back of cottage.Stan and Elaine are wonderful host and are always available to help.

This is our 5th stay at Cherry Tree Cottages. We visit this area frequently because we have family in Ripponden. The owners Stan and Elaine are very friendly and helpful. In the past, Elaine has even taken us on one of her energetic walks. They have also supplied us with toboggans on several occasions when there was a decent snowfall. We have stayed at Cherry Tree and Heather Bank , which is part of the same buildings. Both properties are ideal for a family of 4.
The kitchen facilities are good and there is a washing machine and dryer which we found essential for longer stays. Ripponden and the surrounding area is a beautiful part of West Yorkshire. The scenery is remarkable. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants and the local well stocked store (Co-op) is only a short drive away.

The cottage was comfortable for our family of four. This is an excellent location as a starting point for a vacation. The views are beautiful and it’s in the countryside but close enough to towns and the M62 so that you can go anywhere quickly. You can hike at the rear of the property and get fresh milk from the neighboring farm. Stan and Elaine are wonderful hosts living next door if you need anything. We will return in the future. The Thorpe family : Colorado, USA
Elaine and Stan’s place is set in a stunning natural landscape in close proximity to the nearby villages. They’re lovely and warm hosts who welcomed us with generosity and gave us kind advise. We enjoyed staying by the fire socialising and going for nourishing walks just behind the house into the beautiful Yorkshire landscape full of beautiful lilac heather and green. If you’re looking for a cosy cottage in a tranquil setting, this would be a perfect place for you. Juri, Prashant and Mai : London
After a pretty horrendous few weeks moving house we found ourselves between houses and at breaking point. Stayed at this cottage for a week and it was a godsend, a little sanctuary. Stan and Elaine were very welcoming and amenable to our pets. The cottage was very clean, cozy and warm and had everything needed for our stay, the woodland garden was a lovely aspect and very calming. Would definitely stay again if we were back up in Yorkshire. Thanks again Stan and Elaine for a wonderful stay at your cottage. Mark and Linda : Huddersfield
It was a wonderful experience to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and stay at Heather Bank Cottage. The location is fantastic with stunning views of the Yorkshire countryside and large gardens in which we were able to sit and enjoy the warm weather. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable. Our hosts were very helpful in suggesting local sites to visit. We enjoyed a visit to the farm shop, walks to local pubs and a very scenic walk around the reservoirs near Ripponden. We hope to return for another visit soon! Alastair : London
We had a lovely stay with Stan and Elaine in Heatherbank Cottage. We were really comfortable in the cottage. It was very well looked after and had loads of character. They have been really sympathetic to the original features of the barn. We loved the wild yet meticulously maintained garden that is surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful scenery. The garden leads to many a wonderful walk and there are lots of peaceful spots to sit and picnic or opportunities find your way to a local pub! My daughter loved feeding the horses in a neighboring field and swinging on the swings and hammocks in the garden. I would love to come visit again and would recommend to nature lovers or anyone seeking a peaceful escape. Bex and family : West Wittering UK
We rented the cottage to provide accommodation for us whilst waiting to get into our new property. On arrival we were greeted by Sophie who showed us the ropes. We were pleasantly surprised with the cottage. It was very comfortable with very good facilities. We particularly liked the upstairs lounge with nice views to the rear. All in all a very nice stay. : Brian T : Almarimar, Spain
We had a lovely break here this August. Both Stan and Elaine are great hosts, they made us feel very welcome but equally ‘left us alone’ in a nice way. The cottages are surrounded by beautiful scenery and it’s only a short walk to the moors from their back garden. The cottage is clean and well equipped, you really only need to pack your clothes and food – everything else we needed was there. : The “Wolves” family : Bromsgrove, Worcs.
I just wanted to let you know that we have had a lovely first night staying in the cottage.Very homely, and the walks are just stunning! My mother and friend joined us later on in the evening as they had a meal with the family in Sowerby. : Many Thanks : Rachael : Reading, Berks.
We rented this cottage along with the adjoining Heather Bank Cottage as a base for my son’s wedding. it was absolutely delightful. Stan and Elaine made sure that the cottage was warm and inviting when we arrived and couldn’t have been more helpful. Both cottages are beautifully decorated and well equipped – we couldn’t have asked for more. we loved the garden and the fact that we could walk the dog right on the moors. The views from the cottages were breathtaking and despite the preparations we still had to do for the wedding we all relaxed and had a great time. I just wish we could have stayed longer – hopefully we will be back again soon – for a christening perhaps 🙂 : Kate Bannister : Tunbridge Wells.
Dear Elaine and Stan : Thank you for trusting us to look after your cats, keys, home-made marmalade and fruits. We enjoyed it here. We liked it ! Hopefully we can come again. The kids played with the cats, and the cats cuddled up to us. Your garden is heaven. God bless you ! : Paul and Petra Clarkson : Berlin, Germany
We stayed in Heather Bank Cottage, what a wonderful place. Extremely well looked after by its owners, on arrival very pleasing in its location. On entering the cottage it gives you a great sense of warmth and relaxation. Very clean through out with all amenities. The back drop and garden are beautiful and open to some amazing country side. We did not want to leave thank you. : Dorling family : Wycombe
Heatherbank has been our home for a week, but I could happily have stayed indefinitely. Our dog, Phoebe, had the time of her life. . . . coming from the confines of a city. . . . and romped on Norland moor with boundless energy. The cottage is ideal for dogs, with the shady garden accessible at all times, leading to the upper gardens, and superb views over the valley. The whole area is a paradise for walkers and dogs, and the cottage a perfect retreat at the end of a long day, thoughtfully equipped, and including wifi for planning your next day out!
Last, but most importantly, Elaine and Stan made us welcome, force-fed us an endless supply of strawberries, and shared maps, books and enthusiasm for life abundantly with us. This was an exceptional holiday and we would unreservedly recommend staying at Cherry Tree Cottages. :Hilary, Roger and Phoebe : Leicester
We recently returned to Yorkshire with our two children to re-live a childhood spent in the fantastic countryside surrounding Cherry Tree Cottages. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the gardens and field belonging to the Cottages and truly grateful for the generosity of Stan and Elaine in allowing our two excited children to make full use of it! There are rocks to climb, hillside to roll down, a rope swing to play on and on the top garden, an acre of field to run wild in (should you so desire!)
The cottage itself was also perfect for our needs. We enjoyed having an open living area that overlooks the beautiful gardens. We are all looking forward to the opportunity of staying again very soon. :Anderton family : Sussex
Sorry, we have to leave now to go home. We had a lovely time in the cottage, and the kids spent hours exploring the “back garden”. It was fabulous. : Gunningham family : Western Australia
Lovely cottage, in a fine location, with very helpful owners (next door), and a warm welcome. Excellent for our dog, too. Very happy with everything, and hope to come back soon. : Claire : York
We holidayed here at the beginning of August for 3 nights. Stan and Elaine are friendly, hospitable hosts and the cottage is beautiful. Unbelievably clean – it was spotless! The children loved the beautiful garden and having the moors just on your doorstep is fantastic. The dogs walked until they couldn’t walk anymore. Lovely pub/restaurant within walking distance and not too pricey. : Ward Family : Northants
This is a great little cottage in the middle of Calderdale between Halifax & Huddersfield on top of the hills near Barkisland. The front room has a fantastic view across the valley to Stainland and up to Scammonden Dam. With just one ‘not quite teenager’ this was ideal but would also suite a family with 2 smaller children. Good laundry facilities in the cellar. This is a really good location for visiting or exploring this part of Yorkshire. : Muir family : South Africa
We stayed for one week and hired both cottages – Cherry Tree and Heather Bank. We have nothing but good things to say about the cottages and the location. It was ideal for us. We ate all our meals together as a family in Heather Bank as the kitchen and living room were better for entertaining. Then for quiet time with our baby the living room in Cherry Tree was lovely with ‘fantastic’ views. We especially liked the farm shop down the hill for local ice cream, cheese and anything you would need for dinner. Thanks to Stan and Elaine for welcoming us, we had a great time exploring Yorkshire. Sawden family : Australia and UK
Dear Stan and Elaine. Thank you for our lovely stay at the cottages. It was great to meet you and hear all about your love for travel, animals and LIFE! All my family members have now left UK after a fun stay here and a very wonderful family wedding. Both of you played a part in making it a lovely occasion for all of us. On behalf of the team, Thank you! Best wishes to both of you and happy travelling. : Merle and all the family : Cheshire , USA and Canada
The cottage is comfortable and cosy – the bathroom is particularly good. Elaine and Stan were welcoming and helpful, and shared their beautiful garden, which is exciting for children. : Emma and family ( couple +3 year old + baby ) : Birmingham
We stayed in Cherry Tree cottage for two weeks and had a great time. The cottage is ideal for walking, and the garden was full of sweet strawberries and raspberries to eat! We loved it all. : Grethe and Stephen : Norway
Just returned from a fantastic few days in Cherry Tree Cottage. The accomodation was excellent-just what we wanted and the walking was fantastic-unusually we managed to tire our 10 month old Cocker Spaniel. Close enough to Leeds to visit our family regularly. Do try the nearby Farmshop- the pastries are scrummy. : Jan, Ray and Tess : Aylesbury, Bucks
My wife and I enjoyed a very comfortable stay at Cherry Tree cottage. Stan and Elaine made us feel very welcome and went out of their way to help us with a variety of matters. It was very nice to have both a gas fireplace and also central heating. We also very much appreciated having fast wifi. We would happily recommend Cherry Tree cottage. : Gordon and Wendy : Ontario, Canada
